Steinernema carpocapsaeSteinernema carpocapsae is the best-known of all beneficial nematodes. This very small roundworm is especially effective various caterpillars and lawn-damaging insects. In the latter role, it is also used with Heterorhabditis bacteriophora - a highly effective combination. More specifically, Steinernema carpocapsae is useful against armyworms, artichoke plume moth, billbugs, girdlers, cutworms, dog and cat flea larvae, European crane fly, iris borers, leaf miners, root weevils, thrips, sod webworms, weevils, and wood borers, to name a few. Steinernema carpocapsae preys on soil-surface-crawling insects. It is far less effective with deeper pests, which explains its pairing with H. bacteriophora, for troublesome lawn grub infestations. It does best at temperatures of 21C/70F to 27C/80F. See the section on nematodes for more general information, including usage and application principles.
