Seed sown in fall, into a protected location and fertile well-draining soil; tolerates a fairly wide pH range, and clay may also be tolerated. Full sun, consistent moisture. Cultivars may be whip-grafted onto Fraxinus excelsior, European ash, rootstock; this ash is especially suited to exposed locations and alkali soils, hardy zone 5-8. Zones 2-9
