Grow in good light, well-draining soil, and ensure adequate room for growth. May be divided in spring, replanting immediately, and ensuring a constant supply of moisture to the transplant. Or grow from rhizome cuttings, each some 10-12" long, with at least one new shoot; these should again be kept constantly moist until well established.
Finally, one may attempt layering single, young stems, with roots attached, by burying these horizontally about 4-6" deep; keep moist until established. Zone 7-10
Arundinaria pygmaea, or pygmy bamboo, is hardy to zone 5, and is propagated in the same manner
