Small-reed, reed grass
Grains and Grasses
Propagates by self-seeding and rhizomatous spread; seed requires stratification. Clump division in spring or fall is the simplest and most rapid propagation technique. Note that some named cultivars are sterile and do not self-sow.
Prefers fertile, moist, well-drained soil, but does well in wide range of soils and conditions, including saline or heavily acidic soils. Very drought-resistant once established. Good light to moderate shade. Can become invasive.
Perennials hardy in zones 4-9
Bur reed (Sparganium ramosum, Sparganium erectum)
